I just sent off the 2nd Multiple warheads issue to Oni.
done done done (I still have to do the cover...)
Here's that 2 page spread I'd put up now all finished.
It's funny to be 80's pages into something and feel like I'm just getting started.
This hotel they're staying in runs off of ghosts and is built into a cliff and connects to an underground mole men kingdom. and it's staffed by bird dudes in fezes. and there's a wizard war going on.
I ganked the layout of the top panel from an ad in the new york times style magazine--
Homie lemme snatch that.
I wanted to put the turben gentelman and car in but I dont think he'd fit with what I wanted to do.
I like that anything visual can be cannibalized for your comic book needs.
And here's the hotel menu:
As far as I can tell Stokoes goal in life is to get me to draw buttholes on all my pages. so that poop steak Girk is me sacrificing a butthole virgin to him.
I've been kicking around the idea of doing coloring as my only freelance work. I think it might be less artisticly taxing than drawing something that I don't want to.
I'm trying out a test job in the next couple weeks. If all goes well I
could see it makeing it possible for me and dear sweet Marian to make more of our own work.
King city 12 and James Orc collection are both in stores.
Here's a 2 page scene I cut from that last issue.
After I drew it I thought it was setting up too much of something I
wasn't planning on showing.
There was lots of last battle stuff I'd planned that didn't make it in.
There were going to be more catmasters and the demon king dudes were going to
bring in wolf masters to fight them. and a guy who just used his shoes as weapons named
-shoes your weapons. There was going to be an old lady who in the middle of the most dramatic part of the fight yells out her window "Stop this Kungfoolery!"
Sometimes I feel like I've thought out ideas enough and when I get to them it's like I've already done it and I want to come up with something new.
Here's unused layouts from the first KC book. With Pete and the Alien girl
on their way to the Rainbow womb and running into a fight,
dudes who cook food on their heads VS the Owls.
I think there was a 2 page explosion here. (BOOM!)
I did these quick drawings of Stix from my old porn comic Perverts and Sexica with Earthling.
I turned 34 last week and got fat larders of drawings.
Comic book hero Darryl Ayo did up a whole 2 page King city scene.
I like how this works as a nice extra you could tack onto the end of KC.
And John Kantz did up the Illedovian girl with strawberrys.
It's so cool to see that mask drawn by him.
And last time I put up an old drawing D-pi had given me so he did this
new Sexica.and he also did a drawing of Coreys Layed jacked dude:
The ankles on the LJ dude are doing that black on black trick. That's like seeing magic.
On his site he's got his and Coreys take on that redrawing of Moebius drawing.
There were so many good ones done all over this internet.
And Jhosephine Tanuwidjaya did up this rad Sexica:
I like seeing the process like this. How she inked less sword lines than she drew.
NEXT: Vincent Kukua on the left, who does production art at Image.
I don't know if I've said enough about how good the Image production dudes are.-- Between King city, James Orc stain and Marian's Beast they've won me over. And seeing how well Vincent draws, It's like finding out that an astronaut also knows kung foo.-- no kungfooling dawg. I really like how he drew Nikolis feet.
and that toothy dude with the jetpack.
and Mia schwartz on the right, who is an NYC SVA student who I want to be when I grow up. Everything she does has this cool to it. I really like the stomoach and hips on her Sexica.
Mia schwartzzzzzz site:
And Miss Schwartz has a comic in this Fixit magazine:
There's a site here:
I like a dinner face.
So yeah, It was a serious birthday, I've never been older.
There were doughnuts and I made Marian and Stokoe and Muggles go out to Malaysian food with me (bannana Leaf)
and then forced Claire to watch The good the bad and the ugly.
I like that movie.
This morning I ran into Jake Wyatts site:
I'm really impressed with the pages he's got up.
whatelse needs to be typed about?. oh WORD! Japanese cats on airplane models:
And if that wasn't enough here's a Miyazaki Animage cover with pigs driving a tank and birds in planes on a video game box cover.
I like that the birds are just flying around in a plane with another birds face as the tail logo.
I dug up some old Ken macklin art. I was so into his comics when I was a kid. I still am.
That tiny image on the right was all I could find of his book Contractors about a cat and a Rabbit space mercenaries.
If anyone finds a copy I'd liked to be buried with it some day.
I think the name of this book on the left is SAND COFFIN!
I like this Project A-ko manga page. There's something great about using the 4 panel strips and using one of them for a pin up.
M.U.S.C.L.E. thing looking Mario toys.
I read this Julia Gfrorer's Flesh and bone tonight.
Good stuff, It's about a deal a broken hearted dude makes with a witch.
There's a really good scene with the witch talking to a lion headed demon about love.
I'm half way through Cerebus High Society, It's even better than I remembered.
It's nice for me to be reading this great comic set in a hotel while working on my comic set in a hotel. It helps me remember how good it can be.
I liked this Lewis Trodheim short about his trip to America.
That top right panel showing his view of the ground is great.
Ok, tomorrow I start MW #3.
