Earth the living planet.

Hello,

I'm up way past my nap time. Things have been good, I'm in the middle of a hard comics work week.
Here's the half finished Multiple warheads 2 page thing I've been working on.

I've been thinking a lot about what fuels the work.
Years ago my pal Ludroe was talking about this idea that when you're young your work can run off of pure youthfull energy and enthueasm but when you're past that you have to find something else to fuel it.

So much of the work in my adult comic life has been powered off of snark and chip on my shoulder. but now I'm getting to a spot where I'm really happy, for the most part I get total freedom to draw my own comics and I don't really deal too much with the sides of comics I dislike. My biggest gripe these days is that I want more good books out and less bad. and for that I'd sell my case better with honey than snark.

So yeah, I'm just mulling shit over.

And to contradict the idea that I'd ever be less snarkey here's a tintin thing I put together
to pick on my pal Joe:

In the end the Tintin movie is just more bullshit I won't see. The bad Appleseed movies never made the comics less for me and there's that Conan Tv series where he's got a midget sidekick and Crom talks to him through his sword. Life moves ever onward.

----------------------------------------------------------
The main reason I wanted to throw this up tonight is my homie Mr Sheldon sent me
the whole first chapter of the photo porn comic he's been working on to shop around to
whatever sleezy rags.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That vagina robot device reminds me of the old Bizare sex "earth man give me your seed!" cover.

And speaking of flowers, here's a Moebius short I hadn't seen before this week.
godamn! I love what this dude does on paper.

I've been spending way too much time looking at doujinshi on this g.e-hentai.org
site. I found that Moebius on there. Here's some tsukasa jun pages I liked from his GUN BLUE book that hits on my love of cyborgs from the future ish:

And the whole thing here:
http://g.e-hentai.org/g/134108/5636440897/?p=1
and a good resident evil short he did:
http://g.e-hentai.org/g/298975/74419cc36a/

and some Dirty pair and a nice superfuture motorcycle by Oh Great!.

I've been reading the 1967 British Penguin book of comics that I had when I was a kid.
chocked full of great comics. One that hit me hardest was this Tiffany Jones page.
I like that combanation of good solid blacks and the lines in the hair.
It'd be so cool to see some serious early Vertigo black lipstick magic comic done in a style
like this.

Aight, more drawing and then sleeep.

would you still talk to me if i said i kind-of wanted to see the tintin movie, mister graham.

but the real reason i'm commenting is i am so into the good vibes on that moebius page. just want that to be a person so i can hang out with it. also vintage oh! great cracks my shit up because i always assumed he just didn't exist before air gear.
royalboiler From: royalboiler Date: November 10th, 2010 07:26 pm (UTC) (Link)
Don't let me stop you from seeing it, I just want to make fun of it.

Man, that Moebius comics would be such a layed back horticulturalist.

I mostly only know pre Air gear Oh great.
He put out the horribly titled but well drawn ,Silky Whip.
It asked bold questions like "what if the story of peter pan was told with all hot chicks but Wendy had a dong?"

Good morning--it is great to wake up to some Multiple Warheads. Now I'm using my comic-drawing time to talk about how excellent it is to see some more rough pages! The battery is in my back, I'm charged.
wormulus From: wormulus Date: November 10th, 2010 03:02 pm (UTC) (Link)
YESsssss. Go comics go!

That Mr. Sheldon comic sure is something else... I think I really needed that Moebius to clear my eyes after that!

That Sheldon is one filthy motherfucker.

You should tell your buddy to get rid of the photogirl and just draw her in the comic. Of course that is just my opinion which really doesn't matter since I'm not the one that would be buying this thing anyway. Having said that I do think that his drawing look much cooler than the photo, which just looks out of place and really weird.

BTW I like the rough art, keep it coming. What size are you drawing these things at?

I agree with you, I'm not a fan of the photos in this comic. Seems like a failure on the part of the art-work to me, but as you say, I'm not a porn comic consumer anyway either.
royalboiler From: royalboiler Date: November 10th, 2010 07:29 pm (UTC) (Link)
I'd give him endless shit if that's how he did all his comics. I do prefer his all drawn work but as an experiment I like it.

And thanks. The Multiple warheads pages are 11 by 17.
tormentedartist From: tormentedartist Date: November 10th, 2010 07:33 pm (UTC) (Link)
So if your MW pages are all 11X17 do you have a 12X18 scanner and if you don't can you point out a good tutorial on scanning and piecing together pages with a smaller scanner? Because I find it insanely hard to scan large pages and then have then look like they belong together.
royalboiler From: royalboiler Date: November 12th, 2010 02:57 am (UTC) (Link)
I scan them in 3 parts and then put them on multiply so they're see though to piece them together and then erase parts to line them up.

I disagree. I actually hate photo comics but the way Sheldon's doing it here is not only fucking awesome-looking, but incredibly innovative.

I'd like to see more comics done in this style.

Those Multiple warheads pages look ace.I just love how you use space.

Sheldon's comic is fucking insane! I'd expect no less. Been thinking about my own dirty comic. Gonna have to seriously up my game now.

Ha ha ha, all I keep thinking is what that photo shoot must have been like for the model.
Meanwhile, I really like that drawing of yours right at the top there. The girl. with the floating mushroom.
Top stuff as usual, Mr Graham.
royalboiler From: royalboiler Date: November 10th, 2010 07:33 pm (UTC) (Link)
There's lots of stories from that photoshoot I hear.
Sheldon's lady showed up to point and laugh at him and the hand print on her in the last page is from his big meaty Aussie hand.

And Thanks Tony, The girl at the top is a portrait of my possibly fictional misses Marian.

Excellent picks once again! These little tours of the world of comics you do are very inspirational, so thanks for doing them.

And thanks for showing off more of your art in progress too. I didn't realise you lettered directly on to the page. It makes the work you put in seem even more monumental.

Hi Pal,
I think I saw that Moebius recently did a new arzak book after 30 yrs.

I borrowed a black and white copy off of Justin but I haven't seen it in color yet. Sooo good.
How you been Richard?

mmm...tsukasa jun...like ice cream on steroids...

the colors on that bizarre sex cover are really doing it for me. ...So simple, yet so complete. not unlike those moebius pages..worlds inside worlds there.

the thing that really blows my mind with your new pages though is the sense of weight and place. I really feel like i could be standing there, and i never expected that of your work. bravo!

also, tell sheldon that when he's done with this one, he needs to do another with someone who looks less like a barbie doll. no offense to the model or anything, but someone with some real stank and funk is what i wanna see!

I'm so in love with what you're doing with MW. Especially that big typographical element in the upper left.

It's super interesting (to me) to see the stripped down layouts next to the inks. Are most of the details done in straight ink or do you pencil further?
theresomewhere From: theresomewhere Date: November 11th, 2010 05:01 pm (UTC) (Link)
wow!! mr sheldon just broke the comic barrier! it's like 4-D never mind the 3... :)

oh man, i love that penguin book of comics.
a random dude paid me for a commission with that book a few years ago.
he turned up and cos it was just a little sketch he was like 'i can either pay you ten pounds or give you this book i found under my bed'

he blatantly thinks he conned me but THE JOKE'S ON HIM

have you ever seen the manga solevision mitsuyoshi ?

Those Jun Tsukasa pages remind of it (the female figures), solevision is mind blowing how perfectly drawn it is.

No I hadn't seen it.
I can see a connection though.
I should dig that up.

I just picked up the Nuclear City EP by ESTATE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVhzVpxeD1g

and it TOTALLY made me think of your work - of the King City/Multiple Warheads world. it would make a great soundtrack to a KC movie!

nice--kind of a pet shop boys thing to it.
I like it.

Process-POW!

I really like seeing progress shots on artist's blogs - I don't know if it's something that the average comic reader even cares about, but it makes me very happy - I was just wondering - do you ink entirely freehand, or with one of those devilish curly draughtsman's rulers?
royalboiler From: royalboiler Date: November 25th, 2010 10:19 am (UTC) (Link)

Re: Process-POW!

Thanks, I'm glad you like seeing it, it seems to help me get motivated to type about it.

I use a triagle ruler for straight lines-the french curves never made too much sense to me.
