COMIX!

Hey low,

I've been ranting about CAMIX! over on the Inkstuds again.
http://inkstuds.com/?p=2944#more-2944
For some reason I feel like posting there is a classier joint, it makes it harder to
put up cyborg drawings.

Aside from that, my new drawing schedule has mutated into something I like
I've been staying up all night with the goal to ink a page and pencil the next before
I sleep. King city is so close to done it's disgusting.

This morning I did this in my sketchbook.

That first panel with Tintin just made my entire day! And it's my totally awesome three year wedding anniversary, no less. So that was no mean feat.

Thank you.

I've been known to yell COMIX! on occasion just to liven things up.

ALSO I picked up King City #6 at the COMICS DUNGEON last night WOOP!

I so love that Japanese sliced ginger stuff! It's so goddamn tasty! You should try and find Old Jamaica Ginger Beer. It's actually non-alcoholic but the ginger is pretty hot...
royalboiler From: royalboiler Date: June 24th, 2010 01:36 am (UTC) (Link)
When I lived in that uncooth wilderness NYC my older brother would bring me ginger beer and we'd say "where brooklyn at!" and point south.---but yes best shit on earth.
seanvdm From: seanvdm Date: June 25th, 2010 01:31 pm (UTC) (Link)
I actually live about 15 miles to the south of the dutch town Brooklyn was named after, so I'd have to point north in such a situation...
bougieman From: bougieman Date: June 25th, 2010 12:21 pm (UTC) (Link)
My fave brand of ginger beer is "grace" brand. I find it to be the hottest! It's also very sweet at the same time, so your taste buds get super confused!

It's all very pleasant.
seanvdm From: seanvdm Date: June 25th, 2010 01:29 pm (UTC) (Link)
God yeah, Grace is definitely the hottest, but I prefer Old Jamaica. It still has a kick, but I feel you get a more "true" ginger taste.

I so wish I could get my wife to eat sushi. When it comes to food, she's all visual. If it looks cooked like it did alive, she won't even touch it (e.g.: frogs legs). The ginger slices are pretty amazing, though.

Did you know that, in the Middle East, like, EVERYONE drinks tea late at night and puts goat milk in it? During the day, though, they don't put milk in their tea. Anthony Bourdain taught me that, and I thought I'd share it with you. Y'know, on the off chance you didn't already know it.
royalboiler From: royalboiler Date: June 25th, 2010 11:33 am (UTC) (Link)
i had no idea, for some reason the late night milk makes sense
From: parkas_4_kids Date: June 25th, 2010 12:53 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yeah, all the old men drink tea with milk and lots of sugar and play backgammon or whatever. Don't know why, but the idea of that just seems cool to me.

just adore your day comics hehe
ninjasuperspy From: ninjasuperspy Date: June 23rd, 2010 08:51 pm (UTC) (Link)
Hey, I just got King City issue 9 and I have to say that it just keeps getting better. If you ever find yourself in South Carolina I totally owe you a steak sandwich.
royalboiler From: royalboiler Date: June 24th, 2010 01:39 am (UTC) (Link)
I like steak sandiches.
Thanks a lot, if you get a chance try out the board game.
I want to see if I can get anyone to actually play it.
ninjasuperspy From: ninjasuperspy Date: June 25th, 2010 01:10 pm (UTC) (Link)
Oh man, the boardgame is a stand out set of pages in a book that is full of great crazy stuff (Beebay's lockbox and Anna's expression when Joe and Pete get her attention jump out at me, but the whole thing is golden). That game board must have taken a while to put together. I messed with it solo the other day, random tokens and an internet random number generator for the win.

That map from #8 was really cool too.

I had no idea that Alex Toth did comics, I thought he just created Space Ghost--that page you posted in Inkstuds with the ENSNARED was so fucking badass.

and obv. tea should be a quintessential part of everyone's diet, trufax.
inkstuds From: inkstuds Date: June 24th, 2010 08:56 am (UTC) (Link)
Oh dude, Toth is cartoonist first, and animation was to pay the bills. listen to this - http://inkstuds.com/?p=29

Little cat Dudes

My wife and I bought a set of those little cats this past winter in Osaka. A small sugar thing that looks like your drawing and a matching milker. I wonder if they are the same or if they are as common as dirt.

Re: Little cat Dudes

i like the idea of the ground covered with pleased looking ceramic cats.
bougieman From: bougieman Date: June 24th, 2010 02:13 am (UTC) (Link)
I know that cat, you went to PRINCESS SUSHI!!! (aka Hime Sushi)

I also saw the Chester poster.

I like the way Marian defends her ginger.

chang!

Hey Brandon.
I can totally see you freaking out all the beau monde at some fancy schmancy hotel resort in Switzerland somewhere with one of your illuminating rants on comics. Only Prof Sunflower, he cannot be impressed.
Thanks for that great stuff. I could effortlessly subsist on daily sketchbook/journal entries of your day.
Marian, don't let him get that ginger!

Be seeing you

Re: chang!

Haha, yeah I heard. I just ate some de-licious multi-grain sliced bread.
See, there's so much in there, they won't even tell you how much. That's how snootily confident they are about it!
Now, every time I buy bread, I can't help but think of you two (& especially drooling Marian).

be seeing you

Hey, I just wanted to say King City is awesome. You are doing a really unique comic, and that's commendable on its own. It isn't easily classified, it is hard to put it into a box. Was it hard selling the idea to Image?

It is unique and wonderful. Your art really benefits from this nice roomy format. The Joe + Earthling vs Psychic Tough Old Dude throwdown was amazing. And the extras are always cool. The back up stories are awesome too.

Keep it up!
royalboiler From: royalboiler Date: June 25th, 2010 11:42 am (UTC) (Link)
Thanks a lot. I'm bad at pitching books, whenever I do a new comic I end up drawing a fair amount of it before I try to explain them to anyone. KC was 40 done before Tokyopop (the origonal publiser) saw it and 200 pages in by the time Image saw it.

I'm glad you're digging it so far.
harveyjames From: harveyjames Date: June 25th, 2010 01:02 am (UTC) (Link)
CHANG!

Hey, that's the African Adventures of Guiseppe Bergman. Did I send you that one?

That Pat McEown building schematic comic looks exactly like the book I'd make if Marvel ever asked me to do a Spiderman comic.

In am making pie right now...RIGHT NOW! Cherry and strawberry-bluberry(ran out of raspberries--...>u<)

Posting over at robin's joint has cemented the illusion that you're some sort of first rate academic...the lack of cyborgs definitely helps. Golf claps in the detonator room.

Beyond that, I seem to recall that brian wood had an easy recipe for homebrewed ginger beer some time ago. you might wanna hit him or bex up for that?
