I'm hard to kill - Brandon Graham
I'm hard to kill

That's one of the many stupid photshop images I do to email my girlfriend when she's in the next room. But yes, she finished her back breaking harsher than harsh deadline.
And the pages came out amazing.

Those are various authors artists and starship captains with the bodies of otters.
Flowers and chocolates.

The big big thing going on with me this week.

The deal is set. Tokyopop and Image comics are putting out my KING CITY book
in twelve 32 page chunks starting on August 19th
It's going to be printed wider than standard comics size. BIG!
Golden age size. Ivan Brandon's Viking book just came out the same size I think.

Needless to say I'm fucking thrilled.

Yes that thing.
So the deal is that the first 6 issues wll be reruning what was in book one of the tokypop
book. I'm going to have some cool extra shit to try to make it interesting even if you've got
the TP book.

One thing I want is a letters collumn. So I"m asking anyone reading this,
friends enemies and strangers to send me letters I could run in the issues.
My email is
and maybe include something in the tittle about the KC letter collum so I don't run anything
that someone didn't want me to.

"Today we're going to show you eight silent ways to kill a man."

While I draw I've been listening to Joe Haldeman's amazing book, The forever war.
I'd read one of the comic book adaptions in a library years ago and loved it.
Here's a couple of the comic covers.

I hope someone reprints them now that Ridley Scott is making a movie of it.
Here's a good interview with Haldeman about the process of working with a comic artist
I'm excited to get into the rest of his books.

Here's some sketchbook stuff I drew in the coffee shop down the street.

And here's another dumb photoshop thing I did this week that I dont expect
anyone to be as amused by as me.

Moving along!

I did a back up comic/afterward for the colection of Marians Elahantmen issues

It was fun to draw all the dudes--Moritat and Coreyyyy, Starkings and Marian.
If you havent seen it check out the Elaphantmen site.
Mr Richard Starkinds is doing some cool stuff.

I think that's it. I've been holding my breath for this.
I've got lots more to talk about on the way. The next 6 months will be damned interesting
for me.

fuck man, that is some awesome news. Not sure whether I enjoy rebuying it in comics form... who am I kidding, I love your stuff, it's going on the pull list immediately! more King City! Hell Yeah!

Man, I just read this Donjon book drawn by Killoffer. Insanely detailed, like Moebius at his best. I'll put up some pages on my livejournal and send you a link, it's really awesome looking.

Epic level news man. I totally love that bigger-sized book. It'll go right along with my oldschool Ninja Turtles Comics and Warren magazines.

I'm so glad to hear that. Or to read it. Whatever.

I'm gonna buy every single issue, and if they put out a collection or a trade paperback or whatever I'm gonna buy it too.
royalboiler From: royalboiler Date: May 9th, 2009 05:45 am (UTC) (Link)
Thanks for that. My hope is to add enough cool extra stuff into each version of the book as to make it worth it buying the new ones.

That's great, amazing news! Looking forward to it already!

Dude, I'll totally send you an e-mail to put into your KC letters column. Should I ask anything off the top of my head, or are you looking for a particular subject matte rfor the column. 'Cause I can easily come up with something completely off the wall and unexpected.... :-3

I've also been telling just about everyone I see to buy King City once Image starts printing it. My one friend finally returned the TP copy I let him borrow, and he said he read it at least a half dozen times. Seriously, I'm uber-psyched to finally read the rest of the series. UBER. PSYCHED.

Oh thank you, good sir. And I gotta give it up to comic book jesus without whom none of this would be possible. And you, you beautiful heart breaking, cock teasing, genius bastard you.

Sweet honey toast. I thought today was going to be a good day, but I had no idea that it was going to be a GREAT day.

Thank you for not giving up on this fantastic story.

The letters page is a really cool idea too, I'm gonna try think of something witty and profound to send in to you.

My collection of Brandon Graham comics will grow fat. It's gonna be glorious!

royalboiler From: royalboiler Date: May 9th, 2009 05:56 am (UTC) (Link)
Thanks Mark,

Your comment promted me to harass my poor lady by telling her she was living the dream everytime she took out the trash or I'd left the bath filthy. Fodder for my abuse.

But for serious I am pretty thrilled about things. I hope you like the new stuff when it comes out.

Awesome news!! I just hope I can get them in England, although knowing our luck probably not. I would also rebuy king city 1 big size.

To be honest, I would love to see the tome version of this, but I will have to read it right away so I'm in.

royalboiler From: royalboiler Date: May 9th, 2009 06:00 am (UTC) (Link)

I have used up most of my adrenaline today so it seems I can only get moderately excited, at the moment. But I am still pretty psyched.

Isn't Haldeman great?
royalboiler From: royalboiler Date: May 9th, 2009 06:06 am (UTC) (Link)
I will be over hyped for the both of us.

I do really like Haldeman, what do you recomend I read of his next?
hopping_v From: hopping_v Date: May 6th, 2009 09:02 pm (UTC) (Link)
This King City news is literally the best thing ever! Congratulations!!!
From: bluebeetlev3 Date: May 6th, 2009 09:14 pm (UTC) (Link)
I picked up the first King City Trade but I think I'll pick up the monthly that reprints it anyway, just because I'm a stubborn old geezer of a nerd that doesn't think Graphic Novels are "the wave of the future" and "monthly comics are dead."

Kick ass, Brandon. I'm glad the rest of the work will be coming out.
royalboiler From: royalboiler Date: May 9th, 2009 06:09 am (UTC) (Link)

I am all for the monthly geezer mentality.
I'll try to make up for you having already read the meat of the story with the extras until the new stuff comes out.

Although I might just get sidetracked by the fun of a letters collumn.
johnnythunderz From: johnnythunderz Date: May 6th, 2009 09:34 pm (UTC) (Link)
i also loved 'Forver War'. we also had it in the library of my old hometown and still to D-Mark time they had a big sale of old comics and so i could get all the copys each 50 Pfenning, today 25 Cent. sure they were read by half of the toen but it was a nice feeling to own them.
also all the comics by the french artist Frank Margerin that i just adored and after reading them as a kid for years having them standing in my comicshelf.

i hope to get an old copy of King City at the moment. back then the last one was bought away under my nose and they didnt know when they would get a new load. after that alot happend and money was another reason why i never got back to it. but i am glad to have got my hands on Elevator, Warheads and pillowfights.
at least i got to read it when i visited Ralph Niese again and i loved it!
but even if i get my hands on the old King, ill also buy the new one ... LONG LIVE THE KING! haha
royalboiler From: royalboiler Date: May 9th, 2009 06:11 am (UTC) (Link)
man, those are awesome covers.
Hopefully the new ones out will make the old ones easier to get as well. Maybe thats just wishful thinking.
duckhugger From: duckhugger Date: May 6th, 2009 10:26 pm (UTC) (Link)
After all the work you put into that book... I'm really glad they finally negotiated something out for getting 'em out, yeh! FYI... one of the peeps working at the comic shop in downtown Olympia has the first King City book up on the display rack of her recommended picks. I'm sure this news will be happy for her as well... so hopefully they'll stock up on issues when they come out... so's I can snag one up myself too.
royalboiler From: royalboiler Date: May 9th, 2009 06:12 am (UTC) (Link)
I should try to make it down to Olympia one of these days.
I like that town. Plus I havent seen your digs in like a gazillion years.
